Department Highlight: Ben Rutherford and Behavioral Health & Recovery Services

Behavioral Health and Recovery Services (BHRS) has led the County in its mission to become leaner and faster. BHRS represented with 100 of the first 200 leaders that participated in the first round of workshops. Led by Ben Rutherford, BHRS has staff dedicated exclusively to process improvement. Ben and BHRS Director Bill Walker also helped connect the County to our Lean Six Sigma consultant, Scott Thor.

Under the leadership of Bill Walker and his team, BHRS has been an instrumental partner in the Launch Kern initiative and guiding the County’s path to deployment. Mr. Walker understood from the onset that encouraging and empowering staff to take ownership over their work processes was a key to successful implementation.

As an early adopter of Lean Six Sigma, BHRS has completed two (2) process improvement projects. The first project improved the utilization of County vehicles and the second project improved the percentage of Employee Performance Reviews submitted on time. Ben and the BHRS department have more projects in the pipeline that we look forward to sharing with you on this blog.
